"Richard Dempsey and James A. Porter" Washington, D.C.
Dempsey participated in the Washington, D.C., art scene and many of his works are in the Anacostia Museum (Smithsonian Institutuion) collection. While there he associated with Lois Mailou Jones, Delilah Pierce, Lucille Robert and Alma Thomas.
He was born in Ogden, Ut., and studied at Sacramento Junior College, the California College of Arts and Crafts, and the Art Stidents League. He also studied under Sargent Johnson.
His works demonstrate experimentation and evolution. His awards include the Julius Rosenwald Fellowship, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, the U.S. Army Historial Center, and from the District of Columbia.
