Designed by an African American company, MJ Internet Consulting (www.mijohn.com), the site features a virtual tour of the Black Heritage Trail, information about the Museum and its programs, a Museum Store, and Black History Month links. The site invites visitors to learn more about the history of African Americans in New England.
"Our main priorities are accountability and being as resourceful as possible. This web site helps us meet these two important goals, given the number of children, educators, and visitors to our site who want to know more about the vibrant history of African Americans in New England," said Sylvia Watts McKinney, Executive Director of the MAAH.
Michelle Johnson, owner of MJ Internet Consulting, which produced the site, is an African American small business owner whose clients include non-profits, small businesses, and media. InnerCity Software (www.innercity.com), of Dorchester, Mass., also African- American owned, will host the site.
"The Museum is a significant African American cultural institution, and this site makes an important contribution to Afrocentric and historical content on the web," Johnson said.
The Museum of Afro American History, located on Boston's Beacon Hill, maintains the African Meeting House Beacon Hill, African Meeting House Nantucket, and The Abiel Smith School, hosts a variety of special exhibits and programs.
